  • 2K Quad HD both ends on Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX675) sensors

Best for: everyday drivers and EV owners who want both directions covered without stepping up to 4K.

High-endurance memory card — built for non-stop recording
Help me choose the right setup
Memory card — what size? We recommend 256GB for 4K or dual-channel cameras: they record large files, and 256GB holds roughly a full day of footage before it loops — so you’re far less likely to lose an incident before you save it. 128GB is plenty for single-channel or 2K cameras.
Always fit a fresh, high-endurance card. Dash cams record in a non-stop loop, which wears out standard or old phone cards quickly and causes dropouts, “please format” errors or corrupted clips — exactly when you need the footage. A new card rated for continuous recording is the reliable choice.
Parking protection — especially EVs & Teslas. Parking mode runs around the clock. A battery pack powers it from its own cells, so it never draws on your car’s 12V system — 24/7 protection with no flat-battery risk, which matters most on EVs where you can’t safely deep-cycle the main battery.
Cloud connectivity. Add the BlackVue CM100GLTE 4G module for remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking from anywhere. You supply a data SIM — around $5–10/month is generally plenty.
Easy self-install. A BlackVue OBD-II power cable plugs straight into your car’s OBD port — no fuse-box wiring — and keeps the camera powered for parking mode.

Overview

The BlackVue Elite 8 2CH is BlackVue's best-seller in Australia for good reason — 2K Quad HD front and rear on Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX675) sensors with Dual HDR and a 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost, full cloud support, and the 64GB card and hardwire kit already in the box.

Who it's for

This is the definitive everyday dual-channel: serious, intelligent protection at both ends of the car without paying flagship money. Most disputed claims involve the rear of the vehicle, and the Elite 8's matched 2K cameras mean the rear clip is as usable as the front one — day or night.

  • Everyday drivers
  • EV & hybrid owners
  • Front + rear coverage
  • BlackVue's Australian best-seller

Only need the front? The Elite 8 1CH saves you money. Want a 4K front camera? Step up to the Elite 9 2CH (4K front + 2K rear) or the Elite 10 2CH (4K front + rear).

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 2K Quad HD front AND rear — matched detail in both directions
  • Dual HDR processes both cameras simultaneously — headlight glare stays controlled
  • 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost for near-dark car parks and streets
  • 64GB BlackVue microSD and hardwire kit included — supports up to 1TB
  • Power Saving parking mode under 1mA — over 12 months with the B-130A battery
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi 5, dual-band GPS and BlackVue Cloud support

Worth knowing

  • 2K, not 4K — for maximum plate detail at speed see the Elite 9 or 10
  • No built-in screen — review footage in the BlackVue app
  • Cloud needs the optional CM100GLTE module (BYO SIM) or a hotspot
  • Two cameras mean a slightly longer install than a 1CH

A closer look

What it captures

Someone rear-ends you at the lights and claims you reversed — the rear camera settles it instantly. A hit-and-run in a dark car park — Power Saving mode has been on guard for weeks, wakes in under a second, and the 0.03 Lux boost catches the plate under one working floodlight.

Dual 2K with Dual HDR and 0.03 Lux boost

Both cameras run Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX675) sensors at 2K Quad HD, with HDR applied to front and rear simultaneously — so glare, tunnels and low winter sun stay balanced at both ends. As ambient light falls, the 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost lifts sensitivity for usable footage in near-total darkness.

Real parking protection, three ways

Three parking modes cover every situation: Motion Detection records full one-minute buffered clips whenever something moves near the car; Timelapse condenses 30 real-world minutes into every one-minute file for long stays; and Power Saving drops the camera below 1mA — so low it can stand guard for over 12 months when paired with the B-130A Ultra Battery, waking in under a second on impact.

BlackVue Cloud, Wi-Fi 5 and GPS

Connect over dual-band Wi-Fi 5 for fast in-app playback, or add the optional CM100GLTE LTE module (or a hotspot) for remote live view of both cameras, instant impact alerts and GPS tracking — from the office, the airport or overseas. Dual-band GPS (GPS + GLONASS) stamps every clip.

Built for Australian conditions

Supercapacitor power instead of a lithium battery keeps the Elite 8 reliable through hot Australian summers, in the discreet cylinder design that hides behind the mirror.

Installation options

Hardwire kit (included — unlocks parking mode): fuse-box install with battery-protecting voltage cut-off, and the rear cable runs neatly to the back window. We recommend a qualified auto electrician.

OBD-II cable (easy DIY parking mode): the optional BlackVue OBD-II Power Cable gives you parking mode without fuse-box wiring. Not suitable for some EVs.

B-130A Ultra Battery (best for EVs and long stays): over 12 months of Power Saving parking protection with zero drain on the car's battery — the cleanest option for EVs and hybrids.

Recommended accessories

Recording time by card size

64GB (included) ~5–6 hours
128GB ~11–12 hours
256GB ~22–24 hours

Recording times are estimates only. Real-world figures vary with resolution, bitrate, the number of channels recording, how often parking mode is triggered and your settings. Footage loops (oldest overwritten first) unless saved or protected. Use a high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2K front and rear enough?

For most drivers, yes — matched 2K Quad HD reads plates clearly in both directions, which beats a sharp front paired with a soft rear. If you want 4K up front, compare the Elite 9 2CH and Elite 10 2CH.

How does it perform at night?

Dual HDR keeps headlights and glare balanced on both cameras, and the 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost lifts sensitivity in near-total darkness — it's one of the strongest night packages in its class.

Will parking mode drain my battery?

No — Power Saving mode draws under 1mA and the hardwire kit's voltage cut-off protects the battery. Paired with the B-130A Ultra Battery it can stand guard for over 12 months without touching the car's power at all.

What's included in the box?

Both cameras, the coaxial connecting cable, a genuine 64GB BlackVue microSD, the hardwire kit, mounting spares and fitting accessories — everything needed for a hardwired install.

Do I need the cloud module?

No — recording, parking modes, Wi-Fi and GPS all work without it. The optional CM100GLTE (BYO SIM) or a hotspot adds remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking.

Do I need an account to use the BlackVue app?

Yes — the current BlackVue app uses a free account, and first-time setup needs an internet connection. After that you can connect to the camera directly over Wi-Fi, and your account includes 1GB of free BlackVue Cloud storage for backed-up clips.

Is my footage private?

Yes. Footage records to the microSD card in the camera and the camera is private by default — sharing features such as Live Broadcast stay off unless you deliberately enable them, and any Cloud features are tied to your own account.
