BlackVue Elite 9 2CH 4K Dash Cam
Help me choose the right setup
Overview
The BlackVue Elite 9 2CH is the sweet spot of the Elite range — a 4K Ultra HD front camera on the 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX678) sensor paired with a 2K Quad HD rear, Dual HDR on both channels, 12-bit colour and H.265 recording at up to 60Mbps.
Who it's for
Choose the Elite 9 if you want genuine 4K plate-reading detail ahead — where most incidents unfold — with intelligent 2K coverage behind, at a meaningful saving over the dual-4K Elite 10. It's the premium all-rounder for families, commuters and performance-car owners.
- 4K front detail
- Families & commuters
- Premium all-rounder
- Performance cars
Want 4K at both ends? The Elite 10 2CH is the flagship. Happy with 2K everywhere? The Elite 8 2CH saves you $200.
Pros & cons
Pros
- 4K Ultra HD front on the 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX678) sensor
- Dual HDR — front and rear processed simultaneously for balanced footage
- 12-bit colour and H.265 at up to 60Mbps — detail without bloated files
- 2K Quad HD rear camera — well above the 1080p most rivals fit
- Power Saving parking under 1mA — over 12 months with the B-130A battery
- 64GB card and hardwire kit included; supports up to 1TB
Worth knowing
- Rear is 2K, not 4K — that's the Elite 10's job
- No built-in screen — footage lives in the BlackVue app
- Cloud needs the optional CM100GLTE module (BYO SIM) or a hotspot
- 4K files are larger — a bigger card is a worthwhile upgrade
A closer look
What it captures
A ute changes lanes into you on the freeway at 110 — 4K keeps the plate readable across three lanes. At night a tailgater sits close behind: the 2K rear with HDR holds their plate against full-beam glare, and GPS stamps the speed you weren't doing.
4K where it matters most
The front 8MP Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX678) records 4K Ultra HD with 12-bit colour depth — over 68 billion colours — and H.265 compression at up to 60Mbps. That's flagship-grade forward evidence, with a 2K Quad HD rear covering the direction most claims come from.
Dual HDR, both ends
HDR runs on the front and rear cameras simultaneously, balancing harsh Australian sun, tunnel transitions and night-time headlight glare so footage stays evidentially usable at both ends of the car.
Real parking protection, three ways
Three parking modes cover every situation: Motion Detection records full one-minute buffered clips whenever something moves near the car; Timelapse condenses 30 real-world minutes into every one-minute file for long stays; and Power Saving drops the camera below 1mA — so low it can stand guard for over 12 months when paired with the B-130A Ultra Battery, waking in under a second on impact.
BlackVue Cloud, Wi-Fi 5 and GPS
Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 makes in-app playback quick even with 4K files. Add the optional CM100GLTE LTE module or a hotspot for remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking anywhere; dual-band GPS (GPS + GLONASS) stamps every recording.
Installation options
Hardwire kit (included — unlocks parking mode): fuse-box install with battery-protecting voltage cut-off. We recommend a qualified auto electrician.
OBD-II cable (easy DIY parking mode): the optional BlackVue OBD-II Power Cable — parking mode without touching the fuse box. Not suitable for some EVs.
B-130A Ultra Battery (best for EVs and long stays): over 12 months of Power Saving protection with zero drain on the car battery.
Recommended accessories
| Accessory | What it does | Recommended? |
|---|---|---|
| B-130A Ultra Battery | Over 12 months of Power Saving parking protection, zero battery drain | Recommended |
| High-endurance microSD (256GB+) | 4K files are big — more history matters | Recommended |
| CM100GLTE LTE module | BlackVue Cloud anywhere with mobile coverage (BYO SIM) | Optional |
| CPL-2 filter | Cuts windscreen glare for cleaner 4K footage | Optional |
Recording time by card size
| microSD size | Approx. continuous recording |
|---|---|
| 64GB (included) | ~4–5 hours |
| 128GB | ~9 hours |
| 256GB | ~18 hours |
| 512GB | ~36 hours |
| 1TB | ~72 hours |
Recording times are estimates only. Real-world figures vary with resolution, bitrate, the number of channels recording, how often parking mode is triggered and your settings. Footage loops (oldest overwritten first) unless saved or protected. Use a high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording.

Frequently asked questions
Elite 9 or Elite 10 — how do I choose?
The Elite 9 gives you the same 4K STARVIS 2 front camera as the flagship with a 2K rear; the Elite 10 makes the rear 4K as well. If rear plate detail at distance matters — taxis, tailgaters, hit-and-runs — the 10 earns its premium; otherwise the 9 is the value pick.
Is the 4K difference over 2K noticeable?
At distance, yes — 4K resolves plates and details across more lanes and further down the road, and 12-bit colour with 60Mbps H.265 keeps compression from smearing the fine detail.
Will parking mode drain my battery?
No — Power Saving draws under 1mA with a sub-second wake on impact, and the hardwire kit protects the battery with a voltage cut-off. The B-130A battery extends protection past 12 months with zero drain.
What card should I run?
The included 64GB gets you started; for 4K we recommend 256GB or larger (it supports up to 1TB) so loop recording keeps several days of history.
Do I need a subscription?
No — everything on-camera works without ongoing costs. Cloud features are optional via the CM100GLTE module or your own hotspot.
Do I need an account to use the BlackVue app?
Yes — the current BlackVue app uses a free account, and first-time setup needs an internet connection. After that you can connect to the camera directly over Wi-Fi, and your account includes 1GB of free BlackVue Cloud storage for backed-up clips.
Is my footage private?
Yes. Footage records to the microSD card in the camera and the camera is private by default — sharing features such as Live Broadcast stay off unless you deliberately enable them, and any Cloud features are tied to your own account.
