High-endurance memory card — built for non-stop recording
Help me choose the right setup
Memory card — what size? We recommend 256GB for 4K or dual-channel cameras: they record large files, and 256GB holds roughly a full day of footage before it loops — so you’re far less likely to lose an incident before you save it. 128GB is plenty for single-channel or 2K cameras.
Always fit a fresh, high-endurance card. Dash cams record in a non-stop loop, which wears out standard or old phone cards quickly and causes dropouts, “please format” errors or corrupted clips — exactly when you need the footage. A new card rated for continuous recording is the reliable choice.
Parking protection — especially EVs & Teslas. Parking mode runs around the clock. A battery pack powers it from its own cells, so it never draws on your car’s 12V system — 24/7 protection with no flat-battery risk, which matters most on EVs where you can’t safely deep-cycle the main battery.
Cloud connectivity. Add the BlackVue CM100GLTE 4G module for remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking from anywhere. You supply a data SIM — around $5–10/month is generally plenty.
Easy self-install. A BlackVue OBD-II power cable plugs straight into your car’s OBD port — no fuse-box wiring — and keeps the camera powered for parking mode.

Overview

The BlackVue Elite 8 1CH is the most affordable way into BlackVue's Elite range — a premium 2K Quad HD front camera on the Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX675) sensor with HDR and a 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost, BlackVue Cloud support, and a 64GB card already in the box.

Who it's for

Choose the Elite 8 1CH if you want proven, premium front protection and full BlackVue app connectivity without the extra cost and install time of a rear camera. It's the smart entry point to the Elite Series for commuters, new cars and anyone upgrading from an older or generic dash cam.

  • Everyday drivers
  • First Elite-series camera
  • Front-only simplicity
  • Night driving

Want both directions covered? The Elite 8 2CH adds a matching 2K rear camera. Chasing maximum front detail? The Elite 10 1CH steps up to 4K.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 2K Quad HD on a Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX675) sensor — a clear step up from 1080p
  • HDR plus 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost for footage in near-total darkness
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and dual-band GPS (GPS + GLONASS) built in
  • 64GB BlackVue microSD and hardwire kit included — supports up to 1TB
  • Power Saving parking mode draws under 1mA — over 12 months with the B-130A battery
  • Supercapacitor design — heat-safe for Australian summers

Worth knowing

  • Front-only — for rear-end and car-park coverage choose the 2CH
  • No screen — footage is reviewed in the BlackVue app
  • Cloud features need the optional CM100GLTE module (BYO SIM) or a Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Parking mode requires the included hardwire kit (or a battery pack) to be connected

A closer look

What it captures

A car pulls out in front of you at dusk and insists you were speeding — the 2K clip reads their plate and shows your speed via GPS. In an unlit car park at night, the 0.03 Lux boost keeps detail where ordinary cameras record black.

STARVIS 2 with HDR and 0.03 Lux night boost

The Sony STARVIS 2 (IMX675) sensor pairs HDR exposure balancing with an Ultra Low-Light Boost that lifts sensitivity as light falls towards 0.03 Lux — underground car parks, unlit side streets and country roads stay readable, which is exactly where budget cameras give up.

Real parking protection, three ways

Three parking modes cover every situation: Motion Detection records full one-minute buffered clips whenever something moves near the car; Timelapse condenses 30 real-world minutes into every one-minute file for long stays; and Power Saving drops the camera below 1mA — so low it can stand guard for over 12 months when paired with the B-130A Ultra Battery, waking in under a second on impact.

BlackVue Cloud, Wi-Fi 5 and GPS

Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 connects the BlackVue app for instant playback and downloads without touching the card. Add the optional CM100GLTE LTE module or a hotspot for remote live view, push alerts and GPS tracking from anywhere. Dual-band GPS (GPS + GLONASS) stamps speed and location onto every clip.

Built for Australian conditions

A supercapacitor replaces the lithium battery found in cheaper cameras for reliable operation through hot summers, in BlackVue's discreet cylinder that disappears behind the mirror.

Installation options

Hardwire kit (included — unlocks parking mode): wires into your fuse box with a voltage cut-off that protects the car battery. We recommend a qualified auto electrician for fuse-box work.

OBD-II cable (easy DIY parking mode): the optional BlackVue OBD-II Power Cable plugs straight into the OBD port — no fuse-box wiring. Not suitable for some EVs.

B-130A Ultra Battery (best for EVs and long stays): powers parking mode independently — over 12 months of Power Saving protection with zero drain on the car battery.

64GB (included) ~11 hours
128GB ~22 hours
256GB ~44 hours

Recording times are estimates only. Real-world figures vary with resolution, bitrate, the number of channels recording, how often parking mode is triggered and your settings. Footage loops (oldest overwritten first) unless saved or protected. Use a high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2K really better than 1080p?

Yes, visibly — 2K Quad HD carries nearly double the pixels of Full HD, which is the difference between reading a plate and guessing it, especially at distance or night.

How good is it at night?

This is the Elite 8's party trick: HDR balances headlight glare while the 0.03 Lux Ultra Low-Light Boost lifts sensitivity in near-total darkness — unlit streets and basement car parks stay usable.

Can it really watch my car for 12 months?

In Power Saving parking mode the camera draws under 1mA and wakes in under a second on impact — paired with the B-130A Ultra Battery, that translates to over 12 months of stand-by protection between drives.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Wi-Fi, GPS, recording and parking modes all work with no ongoing costs. Cloud features are optional, via the CM100GLTE module (your own SIM) or a hotspot.

Do I need an account to use the BlackVue app?

Yes — the current BlackVue app uses a free account, and first-time setup needs an internet connection. After that you can connect to the camera directly over Wi-Fi, and your account includes 1GB of free BlackVue Cloud storage for backed-up clips.

Is my footage private?

Yes. Footage records to the microSD card in the camera and the camera is private by default — sharing features such as Live Broadcast stay off unless you deliberately enable them, and any Cloud features are tied to your own account.

Can I add a rear camera later?

The Elite 8 1CH is sold as a front-only kit — if you want front and rear, the Elite 8 2CH is the better buy from the start.
