FineVu GX1600-2CH · 4K + 2K · Sony STARVIS 2

FineVu's new 4K + 2K two-channel: a true 4K Ultra HD front camera on a large 1/1.8" Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, paired with a 2K Quad HD rear camera, dual HDR and an eight-alert ADAS MAX driver-assist suite, all with GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi built in.

For drivers who want premium 4K and 2K coverage front and rear without paying a four-figure price for it. If 4K up front is enough and you don't need a 2K rear, the GX4K-2CH saves you money. If you'd rather review footage on a screen in the car, look at the GX9000-2CH.

Who the GX1600 is for

Commuters and highway drivers4K up front reads number plates at speed and across lanes; the 2K rear does the same for tailgaters and rear-enders.
4WD, touring and caravanning146° front and 135° rear coverage, a supercapacitor instead of a battery, and AI heat monitoring for hot parked cabins.
Rideshare, fleet and company carsRear blind-spot and rear collision alerts, GPS-tagged footage and a free PC player that shows speed and route with the video.

What makes the GX1600 stand out

4K front, 2K rear, both on big sensors

The front camera records 3840 x 2160 (8.3 million pixels) from an 8MP, 1/1.8" Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. That sensor size matters more than the pixel count: bigger photosites gather more light, so plates and faces hold up at dusk and under street lighting. The rear camera is a 5MP unit recording 2560 x 1440, so it captures the detail a Full HD rear misses.

Dual HDR and Auto Night Vision

HDR runs on both cameras, balancing bright headlights against dark backgrounds so detail isn't blown out or lost in shadow. Auto Night Vision reads the light around the car and switches itself on, lifting brightness and contrast at night with nothing for you to remember.

ADAS MAX: eight alerts, front and rear

Five front alerts (forward collision, urban low-speed forward collision, lane departure, front vehicle moved off, pedestrian) and three rear alerts (rear collision, left blind spot, right blind spot). Rear blind-spot detection from a dash cam is unusual at this price and useful on multi-lane roads. Alerts use the built-in GPS.

GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi built in

No external GPS puck and no dongle on a cable. Bluetooth makes the first phone pairing quick, then Wi-Fi handles the fast work: live view, downloading clips and changing settings in the free FineVu CLOUD & Wi-Fi app on iOS and Android. Firmware updates also go through the app.

Made for hot Australian cabins

A supercapacitor, not a lithium battery, so there is nothing to swell on a 40°C day. AI Heat Monitoring watches the temperature in parking mode and shuts the camera down safely if the cabin gets too hot, then it restarts normally when you next turn the ignition on. Rated for operation from -10°C to 60°C.

Format Free 2.0 and Smart Time Lapse

Format Free 2.0 means you never have to reformat the memory card by hand, which extends card life and removes one of the most common causes of dash cam "stopped recording" faults. Smart Time Lapse stretches the card in parking mode and switches to full 30fps recording the moment an impact is detected.

Image quality

4K front, 2K rear: why both ends matter

Most rear-end and merging incidents are decided by what the rear camera caught. A 2K rear has almost twice the pixels of Full HD, so a plate three cars back is still legible.

Four ways to power it

Pick the install that suits your car and your confidence level. Two of the four are included in the box.

  1. Cigarette-lighter cord (included) Plug in and drive, no tools, no wiring. Records while driving only; no parking mode.
  2. Hardwire cable (included) The permanent, fully hidden install with parking mode and low-voltage protection. We recommend a qualified auto electrician, or book FineVu's Australia-wide mobile installation for $250.
  3. OBD-II cable (optional, $79) The easiest path to parking mode: plugs into your OBD-II port in seconds, no fuse-box wiring. Not compatible with Teslas and some EVs.
  4. Battery pack (optional) A Cellink battery gives the longest parking coverage with zero drain on your car battery. The included hardwire cable connects the camera to the battery.

Memory cards: a 64GB FineVu card is included and the GX1600 supports up to 256GB. If you upgrade, use a high-endurance card (Samsung PRO Plus, PRO Ultimate or T9). Do not use SanDisk cards in a FineVu dash cam: they cause faults and void the manufacturer's warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Is the GX1600 worth it over the GX4K?

If the rear camera matters to you, yes. The GX1600 records 2K at the rear instead of Full HD, uses a larger 1/1.8" Sony STARVIS 2 front sensor, adds HDR on both cameras and gives you the full eight-alert ADAS MAX suite including rear blind-spot detection. If you mainly care about the front view and want the flushest possible install, the GX4K-2CH is the better value.

Does it have a screen?

No. The GX1600 is app based: you view live footage, download clips and change settings on your phone over Wi-Fi. If you want a touchscreen in the car, the FineVu GX9000-2CH has a 3.5" IPS display.

Will it record while my car is parked?

Yes. Connect the included hardwire cable at the fuse box, use the optional FineVu OBD-II cable, or add a Cellink battery pack. Parking mode covers motion detection, impact detection and Smart Time Lapse, with a low-voltage cut-off for your battery and AI Heat Monitoring for the camera.

Does it work in an EV or hybrid?

Yes. The camera accepts 12V to 24V and has a low-voltage cut-off with a dedicated hybrid setting for cars with idle stop-start systems. Some EVs (including Teslas) don't support the OBD-II cable, so use the hardwire cable or a battery pack in those cars.

Can I view footage on my phone?

Yes. Bluetooth handles the first pairing, then the built-in Wi-Fi connects to the free FineVu CLOUD & Wi-Fi app on iOS and Android for live view, downloads, settings and firmware updates. The free FineVu Player 2.0 for Windows and Mac shows your GPS route and speed alongside the video.

What memory card should I use?

A 64GB FineVu card is included. The GX1600 supports 64GB to 256GB high-endurance cards; we recommend Samsung PRO Plus, PRO Ultimate or T9. Avoid SanDisk cards in FineVu dash cams: they cause faults and void the manufacturer's warranty. Format Free 2.0 means you won't need to reformat the card by hand.

How hard is it to install?

Plug the included cigarette-lighter cord in yourself in minutes for driving-only recording. For parking mode, the included hardwire cable is a three-wire fuse-box connection: straightforward for an auto electrician, or book FineVu's Australia-wide mobile installation for $250. The plug-and-play OBD-II cable takes a few minutes with no tools.

What warranty do I get?

A market-leading 3-year Australian warranty on the cameras and 12 months on accessories and SD cards, plus your full rights under Australian Consumer Law.
