Complete your setup
Choose a memory card and tick anything else you’d like — it all ships together with your camera.
High-endurance memory card — built for non-stop recording
Help me choose the right setup
Memory card — what size? We recommend 256GB for 4K or dual-channel cameras: they record large files, and 256GB holds roughly a full day of footage before it loops — so you’re far less likely to lose an incident before you save it. 128GB is plenty for single-channel or 2K cameras.
Always fit a fresh, high-endurance card. Dash cams record in a non-stop loop, which wears out standard or old phone cards quickly and causes dropouts, “please format” errors or corrupted clips — exactly when you need the footage. A new card rated for continuous recording is the reliable choice.
Parking protection — especially EVs & Teslas. Parking mode runs around the clock. A battery pack powers it from its own cells, so it never draws on your car’s 12V system — 24/7 protection with no flat-battery risk, which matters most on EVs where you can’t safely deep-cycle the main battery.
Cloud connectivity. Add the BlackVue CM100GLTE 4G module for remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking from anywhere. You supply a data SIM — around $5–10/month is generally plenty.
Easy self-install. A BlackVue OBD-II power cable plugs straight into your car’s OBD port — no fuse-box wiring — and keeps the camera powered for parking mode.

Overview

The BlackVue DR590X-1CH PLUS is the most affordable way into a genuine BlackVue — Full HD at 60fps on a Sony STARVIS sensor, built-in Wi-Fi, parking mode and the same discreet cylinder design and supercapacitor build as the flagship models, under $330.

Who it's for

This is the honest first dash cam: for new drivers, parents fitting out a first car, and anyone who wants set-and-forget recording from a brand that will still be answering warranty emails in year three. No cloud, no subscriptions, no complexity — it records, it protects the parked car, and the app does the rest.

  • First dash cam
  • Budget buyers
  • Parents & first cars
  • Set-and-forget simplicity

Want the back of the car covered too? The DR590X-2CH PLUS adds a rear camera. Note the 1CH PLUS can't take a rear camera later — if you might want one, buy the 2CH now or step up to the DR770X-1CH II, which can.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • Genuine BlackVue quality at the lowest price in the range
  • Full HD at 60fps — smoother, more readable footage than budget 30fps cameras
  • Sony STARVIS sensor for usable night recording
  • Parking mode with impact and motion detection when hardwired
  • Supercapacitor design — no lithium battery to fail in the heat
  • Discreet, near-invisible behind the mirror

Worth knowing

  • No cloud features and no built-in GPS (optional external GPS module adds speed/location)
  • 1-channel only — a rear camera cannot be added to this model, ever
  • 32GB card included — worth upgrading for more history
  • No screen — footage is reviewed in the BlackVue app

A closer look

What it captures

A car pulls out of a side street and swears you were speeding — GPS-free footage still shows the gap, the light and the impact, at 60 frames per second. A door ding in the work car park, a nose-to-tail on the school run: recorded, time-stamped and saved before you even knew you'd need it.

Full HD at 60fps on a Sony STARVIS sensor

Most cameras at this price record 30fps on a no-name sensor. The DR590X-1CH PLUS doubles the frame rate and uses the same Sony STARVIS low-light sensor family as BlackVue's premium models — the single biggest factor in whether a night plate is readable.

Real parking mode

Hardwire it and the camera keeps watch while you're parked, recording impacts and motion with the built-in voltage cut-off protecting your battery.

BlackVue simplicity

Connect over Wi-Fi to the BlackVue app to watch, download and share clips. No accounts, no subscriptions — your footage stays yours.

Built like the expensive ones

Same cylindrical stealth design, same supercapacitor (no lithium battery), same 3-year Australian warranty as BlackVue's flagships.

Installation options

Plug-and-play (12V socket): the included cigarette-lighter cable has you recording in minutes — no parking mode this way.

Hardwire kit (included — unlocks parking mode): wires into the fuse box with a voltage cut-off that protects your battery. We recommend an auto electrician for fuse-box work.

Battery pack (best for EVs): the B-130A Ultra Battery Pack powers parking mode without touching the car's 12V system.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a rear camera to the DR590X-1CH PLUS later?

No — this model is front-only and has no rear-camera port. If you think you'll ever want rear coverage, buy the DR590X-2CH PLUS now, or the DR770X-1CH II which accepts a rear camera later.

Does it have GPS?

Not built in. The optional G-1 external GPS receiver adds speed and location stamping if you want it — plenty of drivers run without it.

Is this dash cam good at night?

Yes for its class — the Sony STARVIS sensor is the same low-light family used across BlackVue's premium range. It's the main reason to buy this over a generic budget camera.

Does parking mode need anything extra?

Just the included hardwire kit connected to your fuse box (or a battery pack). Impact and motion events are then recorded while you're parked, with a voltage cut-off protecting your battery.

What's the warranty in Australia?

3 years through BlackVue Australia on genuine local stock — register the camera after purchase. Australian Consumer Law rights apply on top.

Do I need an account to use the BlackVue app?

Yes — the current BlackVue app uses a free account, and first-time setup needs an internet connection. After that you connect directly to the camera over its own Wi-Fi, no mobile coverage needed.

Is my footage private?

Yes. Footage records only to the microSD card in the camera — this is a Wi-Fi-direct model, so nothing is uploaded anywhere. Footage is only accessible to someone with the card or a paired app connection.
