Complete your setup
Choose a memory card and tick anything else you’d like — it all ships together with your camera.
High-endurance memory card — built for non-stop recording
A high-endurance microSD card is included with every Thinkware kit — you can record from day one. Upgrading later? Check your model’s maximum: 128GB (T700), 256GB (U3000, Q1000, Q200, Q850 — Samsung PRO Endurance or SanDisk High Endurance only) or 512GB (U3000 Pro, U1000 Plus).
Help me choose the right setup
Memory card — what size? We recommend 256GB for 4K or dual-channel cameras: they record large files, and 256GB holds roughly a full day of footage before it loops — so you’re far less likely to lose an incident before you save it. 128GB is plenty for single-channel or 2K cameras.
Always fit a fresh, high-endurance card. Dash cams record in a non-stop loop, which wears out standard or old phone cards quickly and causes dropouts, “please format” errors or corrupted clips — exactly when you need the footage. A new card rated for continuous recording is the reliable choice.
Parking protection — especially EVs & Teslas. Parking mode runs around the clock. A battery pack powers it from its own cells, so it never draws on your car’s 12V system — 24/7 protection with no flat-battery risk, which matters most on EVs where you can’t safely deep-cycle the main battery.
Cloud connectivity. Add the BlackVue CM100GLTE 4G module for remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking from anywhere. You supply a data SIM — around $5–10/month is generally plenty.
Easy self-install. A BlackVue OBD-II power cable plugs straight into your car’s OBD port — no fuse-box wiring — and keeps the camera powered for parking mode.

Overview

The Thinkware Q850 is the smart step up from an entry 2K camera: a sharper Sony STARVIS sensor, built-in GPS and cloud connectivity through Thinkware Connected — backed by an HDR rear, Super Night Vision 2.0 and Australian safety-camera alerts, all in a slim body that disappears behind the mirror.

What sets the Q850 apart

Three upgrades lift the Q850 above an entry 2K kit like the Q200 — and they're exactly the features most buyers wish they'd had later:

  • Built-in GPS — speed and location are stamped on every clip, and it powers the lane-departure, forward-collision and Australian red-light & speed-camera alerts straight out of the box. The Q200 needs an optional GPS antenna for any of that.
  • Sony STARVIS sensor — a more light-sensitive sensor than the entry models, so number plates and detail stay readable at night, in tunnels and against oncoming headlights.
  • Cloud compatible — pair it with Thinkware Connected for parked-impact alerts with video, remote live view, vehicle location and SOS notifications on your phone. Entry models have no cloud or remote features at all.

Who it's for

Buy the Q850 if you want more than a basic 2K camera — real driver-assistance warnings, safety-camera alerts and a connected app — without stepping up to a 4K flagship. It's an easy pick for everyday cars and SUVs, and for drivers who value a discreet install that doesn't clutter the windscreen.

  • Everyday cars & SUVs
  • 2K QHD front
  • Driver assistance + safety alerts
  • Slim, discreet design

Only need the essentials? The Q200 covers the basics. Want 2K at both ends? Step up to the Q1000. Chasing 4K with radar parking? Look at the U3000.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • 2K QHD (1440p) front on a Sony STARVIS sensor — sharp, readable plates
  • HDR rear camera holds detail against headlights and low sun
  • Super Night Vision 2.0 lifts low-light footage front and rear
  • Built-in GPS plus ADAS warnings and Australian safety-camera alerts
  • Thinkware Connected support (via hotspot): parked-impact alerts, live view, SOS
  • Hardwire kit and 64GB card included — parking mode ready out of the box

Worth knowing

  • Rear camera records Full HD 1080p (the front is the 2K channel)
  • microSD tops out at 256GB
  • Connected features need a Wi-Fi hotspot in the car
  • No built-in radar parking (available on the U-series)

A closer look

What it captures

A car drifts across the line ahead and clips your bumper; someone reverses into you in a car park while you're inside the shops. The 2K QHD front camera reads plates and lane position clearly by day, and the HDR rear plus Super Night Vision 2.0 keep the detail usable at night and against oncoming headlights.

2K QHD on a Sony STARVIS sensor

The front camera records 2560 x 1440 QHD through a Sony STARVIS sensor with a wide 124° view — the resolution and low-light sensitivity that actually make number plates and street detail readable, not just "HD on the box".

Driver assistance and safety-camera alerts

Built-in GPS unlocks Thinkware's driver-assistance warnings (lane-departure and forward-collision) and Australian red-light and speed-camera alerts, with speed and location stamped onto your footage — genuinely useful context if you ever need to make a claim.

Cloud-connected when you want it

Pair it over Wi-Fi with the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app for quick setup, playback and downloads on your phone. Add a hotspot and Thinkware Connected brings the cloud features that entry models simply don't have: parked-impact alerts with video, remote live view, vehicle location and SOS notifications, wherever you are. Everything else works with no internet at all.

Parking protection included

The hardwire kit is in the box, so parking mode is ready to go: Smart, Energy Saving, Time Lapse and Motion & Impact modes, with a voltage cut-off that protects your car battery. For EVs, smart-alternator cars or long parking, Thinkware recommends pairing it with an iVolt battery.

Installation options

Hardwire kit (included — unlocks parking mode): a fuse-box install with voltage cut-off; an auto electrician makes short work of it.

OBD-II harness (easy DIY alternative): the Thinkware OBD-II Power Cable enables parking mode straight from the OBD port with no fuse-box wiring.

iVolt battery (EVs / long parking): the iVolt Max or iVolt Mini power parking mode without ever loading the car's own battery.

Recommended accessories

Accessory What it does Recommended?
High-endurance microSD (128–256GB) More recording history and longer parking cover Recommended
OBD-II power harness Plug-and-play parking mode, no hardwiring Optional
iVolt Max / iVolt Mini battery EV-safe extended parking protection Optional

Recording time by card size

microSD size Approx. continuous recording
64GB (included) ~8 hours
128GB ~16 hours
256GB ~32 hours

Recording times are estimates only. Real-world figures vary with resolution, bitrate, the number of channels recording, how often parking mode is triggered and your settings. Footage loops (oldest overwritten first) unless saved or protected. Use a high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Q850's rear camera 2K as well?

The front camera is the 2K QHD channel; the rear records Full HD 1080p with HDR. That combination keeps rear plates and detail clearly readable while focusing the highest resolution on the front, where most incidents happen. If you want true 2K at both ends, look at the Q1000.

Does the Q850 have GPS and safety-camera alerts?

Yes. Built-in GPS stamps speed and location onto your footage and powers Thinkware's Australian red-light and speed-camera alerts, plus the lane-departure and forward-collision warnings.

How is the Q850 different from the Q200?

The Q850 steps up in three ways that matter: built-in GPS (the Q200 needs an optional antenna), a more light-sensitive Sony STARVIS sensor for better night footage, and cloud compatibility through Thinkware Connected for remote alerts and live view — which the Q200 doesn't offer at all. Both record a 2K front with a Full HD rear.

How much can I record on the included 64GB card?

Roughly 8 hours of dual-channel footage, looping oldest-first. The Q850 supports cards up to 256GB for more history and longer parking cover.

Will it record while I'm parked?

Yes — the hardwire kit is included, so Smart, Energy Saving, Time Lapse and Motion & Impact parking modes are ready to go, with a voltage cut-off to protect your battery. For EVs or long stays, pair it with an iVolt battery.
