  • HDR + dewarping keeps plates readable against headlights

  • Hardwire cable + 64GB included

Best for: families and commuters who want genuinely sharp footage in both directions without 4K pricing.

Complete your setup
Choose a memory card and tick anything else you’d like — it all ships together with your camera.
High-endurance memory card — built for non-stop recording
A high-endurance microSD card is included with every Thinkware kit — you can record from day one. Upgrading later? Check your model’s maximum: 128GB (T700), 256GB (U3000, Q1000, Q200, Q850 — Samsung PRO Endurance or SanDisk High Endurance only) or 512GB (U3000 Pro, U1000 Plus).
Help me choose the right setup
Memory card — what size? We recommend 256GB for 4K or dual-channel cameras: they record large files, and 256GB holds roughly a full day of footage before it loops — so you’re far less likely to lose an incident before you save it. 128GB is plenty for single-channel or 2K cameras.
Always fit a fresh, high-endurance card. Dash cams record in a non-stop loop, which wears out standard or old phone cards quickly and causes dropouts, “please format” errors or corrupted clips — exactly when you need the footage. A new card rated for continuous recording is the reliable choice.
Parking protection — especially EVs & Teslas. Parking mode runs around the clock. A battery pack powers it from its own cells, so it never draws on your car’s 12V system — 24/7 protection with no flat-battery risk, which matters most on EVs where you can’t safely deep-cycle the main battery.
Cloud connectivity. Add the BlackVue CM100GLTE 4G module for remote live view, impact alerts and GPS tracking from anywhere. You supply a data SIM — around $5–10/month is generally plenty.
Easy self-install. A BlackVue OBD-II power cable plugs straight into your car’s OBD port — no fuse-box wiring — and keeps the camera powered for parking mode.

Overview

The Thinkware Q1000 records true 2K Quad HD from both cameras — not the usual 2K front with a soft 1080p rear — with HDR, dewarping and efficient H.265 recording. It's the balanced sweet spot of the Thinkware range for families and commuters.

Who it's for

Buy the Q1000 if you want genuinely sharp footage in both directions without paying 4K flagship money. Rear plates matter as much as front ones in most disputes, and this is one of the few mid-range kits where the rear camera isn't the afterthought.

  • Families & commuters
  • 2K both ends
  • Balanced value pick
  • EV-friendly options

Want radar parking built in? Step up to the U3000. Watching the budget? The Q200 keeps a 2K front camera under $450.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • True 2K Quad HD front AND rear — matched clarity in both directions
  • HDR with dewarping keeps plates readable against headlights
  • H.265 (HEVC) roughly doubles how much footage fits on a card
  • Wide 156° view from both cameras
  • Thinkware Connected support (via hotspot): alerts, live view, SOS
  • Hardwire cable and 64GB card included

Worth knowing

  • microSD tops out at 256GB
  • Radar parking is an optional add-on module, not built in
  • Connected features need a Wi-Fi hotspot in the car
  • Super Night Vision 3.0 (the U3000-series runs 4.0)

A closer look

What it captures

A merging car clips your rear quarter and the driver disputes the lane — the rear 2K clip reads their plate and indicator status cleanly. Headlight glare at night, low winter sun, a tailgater on the freeway: HDR and dewarping keep the detail usable at both ends.

2K where other kits go soft

Most mid-range duals pair a decent front camera with a budget 1080p rear. The Q1000 runs 5.14MP Sony STARVIS sensors and true 2K recording on both channels — the rear footage is actually worth reviewing.

H.265: twice the history per gigabyte

Modern HEVC compression means the included 64GB card holds roughly what 128GB holds on older H.264 cameras — and the 256GB maximum goes further again.

Connected when you want it

With a hotspot in the car, Thinkware Connected adds parked impact alerts with video, remote live view, vehicle location and SOS notifications. Everything else works with no internet at all.

Parking protection included

Hardwire cable in the box: motion, impact, time-lapse and energy-saving parking with voltage cut-off. Thinkware recommends the iVolt battery for EVs and smart-alternator cars.

Installation options

Hardwire cable (included — unlocks parking mode): fuse-box install with voltage cut-off; an auto electrician makes short work of it.

OBD-II harness (easy DIY alternative): the Thinkware OBD-II Power Cable enables all parking modes straight from the OBD port.

iVolt Max battery (EVs / long parking): the iVolt Max powers parking mode for weeks without touching the car battery.

256GB ~32 hours

Recording times are estimates only. Real-world figures vary with resolution, bitrate, the number of channels recording, how often parking mode is triggered and your settings. Footage loops (oldest overwritten first) unless saved or protected. Use a high-endurance microSD card rated for continuous recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is 2K front and rear better than 4K front with a 1080p rear?

It depends what you value. Matched 2K both ends (Q1000) means rear plates are as readable as front ones. A 4K front (U1000 Plus) resolves more detail ahead but leaves the rear softer. For most family cars, matched 2K is the more useful spread.

How much can I record on the included 64GB card?

Roughly 8 hours of dual-channel footage thanks to H.265 compression — about double what older cameras manage on the same card. It supports up to 256GB.

Does the Q1000 have radar parking?

Not built in — the optional radar module adds wake-on-approach recording. The included hardwire cable already covers motion, impact, time-lapse and energy-saving parking.

Will it work in my EV?

Yes — and for parking mode, Thinkware recommends pairing it with an iVolt battery in EVs and smart-alternator vehicles so the camera never loads the car's system.

What warranty applies in Australia?
