Overview
The BlackVue CPL Filter (BF-1) is a genuine circular polarising lens filter that clips over your front dash cam, cutting glare and dashboard reflections off the windscreen so your footage stays clear, punchy and readable in bright conditions.
Who it's for
If your daytime footage washes out, picks up your dashboard reflecting in the windscreen, or struggles with glare on bright Australian roads, a CPL filter is one of the cheapest upgrades you can make. It's especially worth it for utes, SUVs and cars with sloped or reflective dashboards.
- Glare on bright days
- Dashboard reflections
- Clearer number plates
- Better daytime colour
Pros & cons
Pros
- Cuts windscreen glare and dashboard reflections
- Deeper sky and richer colour in daytime footage
- Genuine BlackVue part — precise fit, no vignetting
- Tool-free clip-on install in seconds
- Inexpensive way to noticeably sharpen daytime clarity
Worth knowing
- Front camera only — one filter per front cam
- Slightly reduces light, so it's a daytime aid (not for night gains)
- Fits specific models — check compatibility below
- For the Elite series, use the newer CPL-2 instead
A closer look
What it does
Polarised light bouncing off your windscreen and dashboard is what causes that hazy, washed-out look and the “ghost” of your dash reflected in the glass. A circular polarising filter blocks that reflected light, so the camera records the road — not the reflection. The result is clearer footage, deeper blue skies and more readable number plates in bright sun.
Genuine fit
As a genuine BlackVue accessory, the BF-1 is machined to seat precisely over the compatible lens with no light leak or vignetting around the edges of the frame.
Compatibility
The CPL Filter BF-1 is designed for BlackVue DR750, DR770, DR900 and DR970 (non-PLUS) front cameras. If you run the newer BlackVue Elite series (Elite 8/9/10), choose the CPL-2 filter instead. Not sure which you need? Ask our team and we'll confirm before you buy.
Installation
No tools required — the filter clips neatly over the front camera lens in a few seconds. Rotate to dial in the amount of glare reduction, then you're done.

Frequently asked questions
Will a CPL filter help at night?
A CPL is a daytime aid — it cuts glare and reflections in bright light. Because it slightly reduces the light reaching the sensor, most drivers leave night performance to the camera itself.
Does it fit the BlackVue Elite series?
No — the BF-1 fits the DR750/770/900/970 (non-PLUS) front cameras. The Elite 8/9/10 series use the newer CPL-2 filter.
Will it block my dashboard reflection?
Yes — cutting dashboard and windscreen reflections is exactly what a CPL does best, which is why it's so popular on cars with reflective or sloped dashboards.
Is it hard to fit?
No tools needed. It clips over the lens in seconds and rotates to fine-tune the effect.
